Reducing
anode effects at Lannemezan
In the past two years, the Alcan smelter at Lannemezan in
France has reduced GHG emissions by over 66%, with a large
portion resulting from efforts to curb anode effects.
Woodlands
regeneration combats GHGs
In 2004, Alcan announced a unique 10-year investment
in a woodlands regeneration project at Loch Leven, Scotland.
Quebec
voluntary agreement
Alcan's six smelters and one alumina facility in Quebec,
Canada, have worked for many years on reducing GHG emissions.
In 2002, the Company signed an agreement with the provincial
ministry of Environment related to the voluntary reduction
of GHG emissions.
