SUPPORT TO LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN AT SINGEN IN GERMANY
Business Group: Engineered Products
Region: Europe

In a community project in Germany focused mainly on children called Aktion für die Region (Action for the Region), Alcan Singen supports six local projects through a combined financial contribution of US$36,000.

Alcan has a deep and vested interest in the well-being of the community, the region and the town of Singen, which, interestingly, has a large population of foreign and non-European residents who do not speak German.

The initial intention was to fund five projects at US$6,000 each. However, the overall response to the project and the number of proposals was so overwhelming that the Singen Management Board opted to fund six projects and donate a total of US$36,000.

A committee consisting of members of Singen management and the Works Council selected the following community projects for funding assistance:
•   A children's home: Kinderheim St. Peter und Paul Singen;
•   A school for mentally handicapped children Sonderschulkindergarten für geistig behinderte Kinder Lindenhain Singen;
•   A logopedical play school Sprachheilkindergarten Singen (Project Clown);
•   Academic help for foreign children Verein zur Förderung der Vorschulerziehung/Hausaufgabenhilfe für ausländische Kinder Singen;
•   A home for women in need Frauenhaus Singen;
•   Sustenance assistance for people in need Singener Tafel.

Alcan Singen's management is confident that these choices are representative of the region's needs and demonstrate Alcan's commitment to social responsibility in the area.
