China Business Council on Sustainable Development: Alcan is
an active member in the China Business Council on Sustainable
Development (CBCSD), launched in October 2003. Through the
CBCSD and its activities, Alcan has joined 35 other leading
companies on a progressive workplan within China that includes
the promotion of the sharing of information on sustainability
best practices, sustainability reporting, recycling, and safety
standards for engineering construction projects.
Five-year
pollution prevention plan in British Columbia renewed
The Pollution Prevention (P2) Plan applicable to the
Kitimat smelter for 1999-2004 was voluntarily developed with
extensive input from a multi-stakeholder Public Advisory Committee.

engagement at ISAL produces sustainable results
A new discharging system for aluminum fluoride has been
put in place at the ISAL smelter in Iceland with both environmental
and economic benefits.
