Rankings
Fortune Magazine
The World's Most Admired Companies is an annual survey of
directors, executives and analysts who rank companies in their
industry based on nine categories: innovation; employee talent;
use of corporate assets; social responsibility; quality of
management; financial soundness; long-term investment value;
quality of products/services; and global presence.
Rankings are based on final scores calculated by averaging
the nine categories. Alcan ranked first in the metals sector
for 2004.
Dow Jones Sustainability Index
Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices
are the first global indices tracking the financial performance
of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide.
Based on the cooperation of Dow Jones Indices, STOXX Limited
and SAM, they provide asset managers with reliable and objective
benchmarks to manage sustainability portfolios. Alcan received
top ranking for its sector for DJSI 2005, as well as
tied for top spot in 2003 and 2004.
FTSE4GOOD
The FTSE4Good Index Series measures the performance of companies
that meet globally recognized corporate responsibility standards,
and facilitates investment in those companies. Alcan has been
consistently included in the FTSE4GOOD global index since
2001.

Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World
Alcan is one of only six Canadian companies ranking among
the world's top 100 sustainable companies. The "Top 100"
companies emerged from a pool of over 2,000 firms and were
selected on their ability to manage strategic opportunities
in new environmental and social markets. Companies were rated
on such criteria as strategic governance, environmental initiatives,
and human capital/labour relations practices.
Second Annual Ranking Corporate Social Responsibility
in the Globe and Mail,
Report on Business, March 2005
In the 2nd annual ranking of
109 Canadian-based companies conducted by the Globe and
Mail Report on Business magazine, companies were evaluated
on their social responsibility performance from a variety
of sources. Rankings were based on scores in six areas:
community and society, corporate governance, customers, employees,
the environment and human rights. Each area contains indicators
related to management systems, programs and performance. Companies
are ranked according to their sector. Alcan Inc. was
ranked number one among the 10 companies included in the mining
sector and, out of the 109 companies evaluated, was chosen
as one of the special "World Leaders" for continued
recognition internationally as a corporate social responsibility
leader.
